A former Belgian colony established in 1908, the Republic Democratic of the Congo gained its independence in 1960. 30 June 2010 marks 50
years of independence. To celebrate the occasion, in the United Kingdom, a group of Congolese writers are staging a play titled CONGO50.
CONGO50 is a musically dramatised theatrical production in celebration of the Golden Jubilee anniversary.
The production is a collage of historical, cultural and traditional events that have taken place during and within the past five decades,
the production aims to emphasis the diversity of Congolese people as a nation through music, fashion, comedy and moving pictures.
The theme for the anniversary is “PROGRESSIVE THINKING”. Despite all the country have endured over those difficult years, we must take
time and reflect on some of the developments and successes in order to move forward, moments such as winning the African nation Cup in
1968 and then again in 1974, the much celebration “rumble in jungle” fight between Mohammad Ali and Foreman (in stade du 20 Mai), and
being the first African country in sub-Sahara to participate in the football world always comes to mind.
The main objectives for the jubilee celebration will be to think progressively toward the future of our nation, come together as a
country to undermine destruction and work positively as a collective in our vision to build a stronger path that will lead us toward
our centenary birthday as a nation. Please join us.
